Luxe living for the whole family.
Mike and Harriet Joao bought the farm in 1997 and for the next 13 years it was inhabited by their four spunky daughters. It was when the last of this crazy bunch left home that they heard the silence and realised the old house needed to be filled with laughter again. Mike, being a builder by trade, quickly made the changes needed, Harriet did the decor and Chelaya Country Lodge was born. The family feel is prevalent throughout the house with photographs, antique furniture handed down through the ages, and souvenirs collected on happy holidays across the world. Oregon floors, yellow wood beams, and the most unusual wall decorations set the tone for a relaxed but stylish holiday venue.
In 2018 Chelaya was approached with an exciting proposal. To incorporate a sports academy into the lodge.
In partnership with Ivan and Dilette Van Zyl we have created SASA - The Sports Academy of South Africa. The piece of land at the bottom of the property has been levelled and will soon be a full size rugby field. Cricket Nets, a gym and various other facilities will be added to the property and we will be hosting training teams from around the world.
Lodge guests will not be effected by these changes, rather their stay will be enhanced as guests will be able to order meals in the Khaya if they do not feel like cooking.

The Khaya - functions; conferences; dining
This is a large dining/conference area with comfortable couches, Flat Screen TV for all major sporting events, music, an informal bar and log fire. Seating for up to 80 people for conferences or dining. There is a great set menu but booking is essential to give the caterers advance warning.

The Boma and Pizza Bar – function venue
New to Chelaya is a massive walled Boma area (the original farm dam) under the pine trees with central fireplace; three additional braai/barbeque places and serving area. Fabulous both day and night with views across the estate to False Bay and the Hottentots Holland Mountains in the distance. Right next door is a smaller, enclosed area with a pizza oven and indoor braai.
There is also a small kitchen offering simple basics and toilets. The Boma and Pizza Bar offer a really vibey, indoor/outdoor venue for small or large informal functions – please inquire directly with the lodge manager for rates and further information.
R4 900 per day
The Pizza Bar can be hired separately to The Boma allowing an area large enough to cater for up to 20 - the kitchen and toilet facilities are included in this.
The Boma area also includes the Pizza Bar and kitchen/toilet facilities.
Two Rim Flow Swimming Pools
The first pool is in the front garden of the Homestead and serves the Homestead, Garden Cottage, Sunset Cottage and Garden Suite. The second (made from a large container cut length ways in half!) is on the other side nearer Waterside, Milk Shed, The Stable, # 4 and Stony Pine. Both enjoy great views and fabulous sundecks with loungers. Sundowners in a perfect environment.
