Luxe living for the whole family.

Mike and Harriet Joao bought the farm in 1997 and for the next 13 years it was inhabited by their four spunky daughters. It was when the last of this crazy bunch left home that they heard the silence and realised the old house needed to be filled with laughter again. Mike, being a builder by trade, quickly made the changes needed, Harriet did the decor and Chelaya Country Lodge was born. The family feel is prevalent throughout the house with photographs, antique furniture handed down through the ages, and souvenirs collected on happy holidays across the world. Oregon floors, yellow wood beams, and the most unusual wall decorations set the tone for a relaxed but stylish holiday venue.

 Serviced

Unusual to most self-catering establishments Chelaya leads the way with an extremely hard working and friendly staff compliment.  Our lovely ladies service your rooms/cottages daily with the exception of weekends and Public Holidays and change your linen and towels on a regular basis.  Our grounds staff take pride in their work and are ever willing to assist with bringing you more braai wood etc. We encourage tipping for good service but prefer if you would give the money to the lodge manager to share out fairly – there are staff behind the scenes that are just as deserving as the ones you will deal with face to face.

 Car Hire

We have an excellent relationship with Comet Car Hire and we will be happy to arrange any car hire requirements you may have.

The Kaya

Is a comfortable common area in a wooden shed situated between the main house and the cottages where you can enjoy comfortable sofas, a log fire in winter, WIFI and tea/coffee making facilities. This is also where the guest laundry is situated with washing machine and ironing facilities. On warmer days you can enjoy the shaded outdoor area.

The Boma and Pizza Den – function venue

New to Chelaya is a massive walled Boma area (the original farm dam) under the pine trees with central fireplace; three additional braai/barbeque places and serving area.  Fabulous both day and night with views across the estate to False Bay and the Hottentots Holland Mountains in the distance. Right next door is a smaller, enclosed area with a pizza oven for guests use. There is also a small kitchen offering simple basics and toilets. The Boma and Pizza Den offer a really vibey, indoor/outdoor venue for small informal functions – please enquire directly with the lodge manager for rates and further information.

 Two Rim Flow Swimming Pools

As Chelaya has become more and more popular we have added a second swimming pool. The first pool is in the front garden of the Homestead and serves the Homestead, Garden Cottage, Sunset Cottage and Garden Suite. The second (made from a large container cut lengthways in half!) is on the other side nearer Waterside, Milk Shed, The Stable, # 4 and Stony Pine. Both enjoy great views and fabulous sundecks with loungers.  Sundowners in a perfect environment.
